2nd Gen. Liquid-Cooled Electronic Loads for Advanced Testing

May 29, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

Schaefer Inc. unveiled the second-generation of the LW 5100 Series of liquid-cooled electronic loads featuring user friendly touch screen panel and enhanced functionality. These built-to-project loads are housed in a compact case that provides high power density and ease of use. Their versatility and customization makes them suitable for linear and nonlinear load test applications as well as suited for laboratory or test room production. The LW 5100 Gen. 2 Series provides four different operating modes: constant voltage, constant current, constant resistance and constant power. CV, CC, CR and CP adjustments can be made through programmable front touch screen keypad (soft key), rotary encoder, external remote unit and CAN bus interface.

This is a modular system offered in four basic configurations: 60A, consisting of one cabinet and one module; 120A, consisting of one cabinet and two modules; 180A, consisting of one cabinet and three modules; and 240A, consisting of one cabinet and four modules. Key features include: Wide operating range up to 400V / 750A with one module, dynamic paralleling of up to 4 or more modules for higher load capacity up to +40kW, controllable through one interface. Fully-protected against thermal overheating, with programmable switch off limits, to avoid total discharge of the battery. And reduced water consumption depending on load power and water inlet temperature.

Additional features include: Determination of the capacity of batteries in Ah (battery tester); “In service” test of batteries considering actual load currents by an additional current probe input; Adjustable constant voltage regulation; Adjustable constant power regulation; Analog monitoring of V, I, P (selectable 0-10V, 4...20mA, 0...20mA); Digitally controlled Master / Slave operation; Selectable and programmable waveforms for I and P; Automatic slave detection with automatic detection of the physical order within the rack system; USB host for firmware update; USB device for control, programming and monitoring by USB connection; Fast programming by touch screen keypad (soft key) and rotary encoder; and Programming of current and power by BNC-input.
