1kW Power Supplies with 2xMOPP Insulation Resistance Rating

September 29, 2018 by Paul Shepard

Mean Well announced that the recently lunched high-performance Medical Power Supply, MSP-1000 series, has been upgraded to 2XMOPP. These ac-dc power supplies operate from a universal input of 90- to 264-Vac and include active power factor correction.

Other features include efficiency up to 94%, wide working temperature range -40 to 70°C (12V and 24V models especially have derating performances of 60°C), remote control functions (remote ON/OFF, remote sense, and DC OK signal), auxiliary power [email protected], no load power consumption <0.75W, and parallel power up to 4000W.

The IEC60601-1 3rd edition standard is the harmonized standard for medical electrical equipment that has been adopted globally. In the latest 3rd edition of the standard, Means of Protection (MOP) was introduced and it was further categorized into 2 different classifications, which are Means of Operator Protection (MOOP) and Means of Patient Protection (MOPP)

For equipment used within laboratory environment without contacting patients, power supplies that meet 2xMOOP standards are normally sufficient. However, for those contacting patients, power supplies meeting with 2xMOPP standards are compulsory.

Taking the market demand into consideration, the insulation resistance level of MSP-1000 series which was launched in this June is now upgraded from MOOP to 2xMOPP (Means of Patient Protection). Power supplies that meet 2xMOPP standards provide the highest level of protection. It can be advantageous to specify a 2xMOPP power supply because it can cover most of medical applications.

The MSP-1000 series will be upgraded to the new version after the production dated 2018/09/26 (production lot: W1810D), with no change in pricing.
