120W Quarter-Brick Ruggedized Industrial DC-DC Converters

August 17, 2017 by Paul Shepard

TDK Corporation announces the introduction of the GQA120 series of 120W industrial grade dc-dc converters. Four package types allow product performance to be optimized for the application.  The series can accept a 12Vdc or 24Vdc nominal input, making it suitable for ruggedized communication equipment, automated vehicle mounted electronics, trackside rail and marine radar and navigation applications.

The GQA120 series utilizes the industry standard quarter brick pin-out and has four packaging options.  For convection cooled environments the flanged baseplate version is suitable for cold-plate cooling and models with the non-flanged baseplate can be fitted with a standard quarter brick heat-sink.

The cost optimized open-frame construction is suitable for applications with airflow, or the encapsulated design is best suited for high temperature, harsh environments with minimal airflow.  All models have a baseplate temperature rating of -40 to +105 degrees C.

5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, 28V and 48V nominal outputs are available and can be adjusted -10% / +10% using the trim function.  The 5V to 28V models will operate with a 9 to 36Vdc input and the 91.5% efficient 48V output from 18 to 36Vdc.  All models can withstand a 1 second surge of up to 50V.  The GQA120 will automatically recover following an input under-voltage, output over-voltage, over-current or over-temperature condition.

Major Specifications

Input to output isolation is 3,000Vdc for the flanged encapsulated models, 2,250Vdc for the encapsulated non-flanged and 1,500Vdc for the open frame construction. The series is safety certified to IEC/EN/UL 60950-1 with CE marking for the Low Voltage and RoHS2 Directives.
