100W Class I and Class II 2”x 4” AC-DCs Deliver 75W in an 85°C Ambient

July 30, 2018 by Paul Shepard

TDK Corporation announced the introduction of the 100W-rated TDK-Lambda brand CUS100ME series of medical and industrial AC-DC power supplies. The series delivers 75W in ambient temperatures of up to 85°C with just 1m/s airflow, however, with conduction cooling, it can provide full power at up to 70°C. Target markets include home healthcare, medical, dental, test and measurement, broadcast and industrial equipment.

A choice of seven standard output voltages is offered; other voltage settings are available upon request. The input voltage range is 85- to 264-Vac, 47‑63Hz with the capability of accepting 47‑440Hz. Operating efficiencies are up to 94%, with an average efficiency of >87% and <0.5W no-load power consumption.

Available in four package types, the power supplies are designed for use in both Class I or Class II (double insulated) installations. The open frame CUS100ME measures 50.8 x 101.6 x 31.5mm (WxLxH), the U chassis 64 x 116 x 38.5mm, or 64 x 116 x 39.7mm with a cover.

A 34.2mm high version with a metal baseplate can also be ordered.  The U channel and baseplate models facilitate the very high ambient temperature conduction cooling ratings.

Like the 30W, 60W and 150W models in the series, the CUS100ME has an input to output isolation of 4,000Vac (2 x MoPP), an input to ground isolation of 1,500Vac (1 x MoPP) and an output to ground isolation of 1,500Vac (1 x MoPP) for suitability in B and BF rated medical equipment. The leakage current is <250µA and touch current is <100µA. The maximum operating, transportation and storage altitude is 5,000m.

Safety certifications include IEC/EN/ES 60601‑1, IEC/EN/UL 60950‑1, IEC 61010‑1 (designed to meet) with CE marking for the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS2 Directives. A derivative meeting EN 60335‑1 can be supplied upon request.

The units also comply with EN 55011‑B and EN 55032‑B conducted and radiated emissions (Class I and II), and meet the EN 61000‑3‑2 harmonics, IEC 60601‑1‑2 Edition 4 and IEC 61000‑4 immunity standards.
